The Pharmacy Technician at Bibb Medical Center (BMC) plays a critical role in supporting pharmacists to ensure the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to patients. This position involves accurately processing prescription orders, preparing and labeling medications, preparing end of month reports for quality assurance and accounting departments, and maintaining sterile environments to uphold patient safety standards. The technician will work closely with healthcare professionals in both inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy settings, facilitating communication and serving patients to optimize pharmaceutical care. Attention to detail, reliability, and respect for patient confidentiality are essential to successfully manage the daily workflow and contribute to positive patient outcomes. Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 17 years of age (Alabama Board of Pharmacy law).
Alabama Board of Pharmacy Technician license.
Proficiency in operating computer software systems.
Basic knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication safety protocols.
Strong attention to detail and reliability in performing tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a pharmacy setting.
Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating respect and professionalism.
Additional certifications or training related to pharmacy, technology, or healthcare.
Familiarity with sterilization techniques and infection control standards.
Knowledgeable in operating standard office equipment (fax machines, printers, scanners, etc.).
Responsibilities:
Accurately enter prescription orders into the pharmacy system and verify patient information.
Report monthly for quality assurance (compliance and safety) monitoring and financial reporting to the departmental director and/or accounting department.
Fill and label prescriptions following established protocols and safety standards.
Operate and maintain pharmacy machinery and equipment to coordinate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and customers/patients.
Assist pharmacists in inventory management, including stocking and organizing medications.
Ensure compliance with hospital and retail pharmacy regulations and standards.
Perform sterilization procedures to maintain a clean and safe pharmacy environment and prevent contamination.
Provide respectful and professional interactions with coworkers, patients, healthcare staff, and vendors.
Skills:
The required skills such as order entry (typing) and filling prescriptions (counting accurately) are fundamental to the daily workflow, ensuring that medication orders are processed accurately and efficiently. Operating emails and using computer software billing systems to timely communicate with healthcare providers and insurance companies is essential for day-to-day workflow. Reliability ensures that tasks are completed consistently and on time, supporting the smooth operation of the pharmacy. Demonstrating respect in all interactions fosters a positive environment for patients and colleagues, enhancing teamwork and patient care quality. Ability to communicate and interact with patients and pharmacy customers in positive face to face and telephone encounters daily to promote excellent pharmacy customer service and satisfaction.
