Banner Health has partnered with Front Range Community College (FRCC) to offer an exciting, grant-funded, 2000-hour pharmacy apprentice opportunity within our Northern Colorado region.

As a Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside our pharmacy team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to learn the nuances of both acute and retail pharmacy. On the acute side, you will have the chance to assist in refilling Pyxis, filling the carousel, automation, IVs, sterile and non-sterile compounding, general fills, and running stat meds to rooms/patients. On the retail side, you will be able to provide customer service to patients and assist with filling prescriptions as well as data entry. The Pharmacy Technician Apprentice will also attend classes at FRCC 1 time per week, in order to be able to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam upon completion of the 20-week related instruction. This grant-funded program offers the ability to work while attending FRCC simultaneously, with your tuition at FRCC fully covered by the grants upon application and FAFSA application.

We are hiring a Pharmacy Technician Apprentice to work 24-32 hours per week to join our team at both North Colorado Medical Center and McKee Medical Center! The ideal pharmacy technician apprentice will be detail-oriented and an efficient communicator, with the ability to ask questions, advocate for oneself, and ask staff for support. Our Pharmacy Technician Apprentice will work Monday-Thursday on varied shifts. The shift times will be dependent on which location you are rotating to that week and may include 6 am - 2:30 pm, 6:30 am - 5 pm, 7 am - 3:30 pm, 7 am - 5:30 pm, 8 am - 6:30 pm, 8:30 am to 5 pm, 9:30 am to 6 pm, 12:30 pm - 11 pm, or 2:30 pm - 1 am. POSITION SUMMARY

This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel. Performs routine duties in packaging, distribution, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and record keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Selects and/or prepares medications, under direct supervision, as indicated on the patient medication orders. Places medications inpatient boxes or in designated area for pharmacist to check, sends/delivers medications to nursing units as required. May investigate missing medication requests.

2. Charges/credits patients for medications and intravenous solutions as appropriate. Restocks unused and credited returned medications. Maintain databases and troubleshoot automated technology malfunctions.

3. Attends to customers and answers telephones in a courteous and timely manner. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist.

4. Identifies medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Receives, checks-in, and restocks medications ordered through the wholesaler and other vendors verifying all quantities against invoices. Assesses practical ways to deal with shorted items and short-dated or unusable items.

5. Repackages bulk medications into unit of use packaging. Completes accurate documentation of medications repackaged.

6. Performs quality control activities such as monthly nursing unit inspections and pharmacy section checks in a timely manner. Completes documentation of refrigerator temperatures, and equipment maintenance activities as required.

7. May use automated dispensing technology or requisition to restock medications to nursing and ancillary areas after they are checked by a pharmacist. Restocks medications to all areas outside automated dispensing technology which may include but not be limited to trays, code carts and emergency boxes. Investigates discrepancies in automated dispensing technology.

8. Maintain a working knowledge of pharmaceutical waste and a safe and clean working environment by complying with all policies, laws, and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires Pharmacy Technician Provisional Licensure in the State of practice.

Ability to attend and successfully complete 10 weeks in Acute Pharmacy and 10 weeks in Retail Pharmacy of on-the-job training. Complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and automated dispensing systems. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.

May be required to possess a valid driver\'s license and be eligible for coverage under the company\'s auto insurance policy.
