The ambulatory pharmacy technician performs a variety of administrative duties to provide support to the Pharmacy Department. Maintains the pharmacy computer systems and serves as the liaison for third party audits. Handles pharmacy purchasing activities, and performs other job-related duties as requested.
Responsibilities
Secures price information and purchases pharmaceuticals to maintain established inventory levels for all Care New England pharmacy locations.
Maintains virtual 340B inventory by continually reviewing 340B accumulators prior to placing an order.
Promptly investigates and resolves any discrepancies with vendors (i.e. price, quantity, timeliness of shipment, etc.).
Promptly investigates and resolves any inventory discrepancies to prevent shrinkage or drug loss.
Efficiently expedites procurement of necessary supplies in emergency situations.
Compounds ordered medications which are not commercially available, providing accurate documentation of all products used in the compounding process.
Regularly meets with vendors, interacting in a courteous, professional manner to purchases drugs and products with Director's approval.
Accurately prepares pharmacy records and performs annual physical inventory procedures.
Correctly stores products in inventory according to manufacturer's requirements.
Accurately fills floor requisitions of drug stock.
Efficiently oversees and documents all drug recalls.
Documents the receipt of all pharmacy drug shipments in a timely manner, and accurately verifies pricing and quantity of shipments for Accounts Payable.
Accepts drug orders from wholesalers in a manner that is compliant with DEA regulations and develops processes in collaboration with System Drug Diversion Prevention and Detection Coordinator.
Works with DSCSA vendor when needed to ensure electronic T3 data is available for all drug purchases.
Continuously provides updates to team members regarding backordered drug products and seeks alternative solutions for patients.
Cooperatively serves as a contact person for all third-party payer audits, researching information and answering questions in a professional manner.
Performs monthly 340B internal audits of pharmacy claims for compliance in collaboration with corporate pharmacy team.
Efficiently prepares for upcoming audits, ensuring that records are accurate and organized. Promptly reports all discrepancies and/or irregularities to the Director when audits are requested by third party payers.
Oversees ordering and fulfillment of 340B drug products for external contract pharmacies as a part of the hospital covered entities' alternate distribution program.
Works collaboratively with IT pharmacy group to continually improve dispensing system.
Discusses patient and/or family issues only when related to job responsibilities.
Treats records, correspondence, and other documents with utmost security.
Willingly assists Director of Pharmacy and others in special projects for department.
Cooperatively performs other duties related to Department operations, demonstrating spirit of teamwork in working with other staff members

Job Qualifications and Specifications
High school graduate with experience in pharmacy. Certification through the Pharmacy
Technician Certification Board with CPHT Certification and licensed through the RI Board of Pharmacy as a Tech II required. A minimum of two years pharmacy purchasing experience in hospital pharmacy preferred including 340B qualification and pricing, GPO and wholesaler contracting; and purchasing and inventory control. Demonstrated skills with personal computers and applications desired. Detail oriented; ability to work independently and as part of a team; and strong interpersonal skills desired.
