Assists a licensed pharmacist with the preparation and distribution of medications according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Assists with maintaining medication inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures. Contributes to the effective operation of the pharmacy department. Maintains knowledge and skills required for the position. Must demonstrate ethical conduct and maintain confidentiality of patient information

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures. Contributes to the effective operation of the department. Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department. Maintains competence required for current job title/position. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Accountability and performance standards. Organizational standards. Must be able to perform three out of the seven major principal duties and responsibilities, which include Front Counter, Omnicell, IV Admixture, Nursing Home/Hospice Pharmacy, Charges/Billing, Employee Pharmacy, Nightshift.

Education and Experience

Must be 18 years of age Valid driver's license High School diploma or equivalent. College courses preferred but not required.

Minimum Requirements

Registration with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy must be current. Able to type 30 words per minute. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Moderate computer and data entry skills.

Working Conditions

Medical office environment. Multi-task-oriented position including direct patient care may require sitting or standing for long periods. Some bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lb. Must interact with providers, patients and other office personnel. Must possess socio-economic and cultural sensitivity. May involve contact with angry, upset or ill persons. Will involve potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids and other hazardous substances. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to assist with procedures, perform and interpret lab results, and interface with computer
