JOB SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Technician is a healthcare professional who provides essential support to the Director of Pharmacy and licensed pharmacists in delivering pharmaceutical care and medication to patients. This role is integral to the efficient and compliant operation of the pharmacy department required a high degree of precision, accountability, and self-discipline.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Previous healthcare experience as a Pharmacy tech, 1-3 years preferred.
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Certifications:
Kansas Board of Pharmacy Registration, required.
CPhT (PTCB) certification, required.
BLS certification required within 90 days of employment..

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure that look-alike, sound-alike medications are segregated in pharmacy.
Procure and distribute medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
Replenish medications in automated dispensing cabinets, stock requisitions, emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately.
Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule.
Assist with the purchase of drugs and supplies in accordance with GPO, 340B and best practices.
+ Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
+ Assures that all orders are received, properly checked in and stored away.
+ Rotate stock to ensure use before expiration date.
+ Assists in monthly medication storage area inspections; identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs prior to drug expiration.
+ Manages drug shortages, outages and communicates to appropriate staff.
+ Understands and maintains the standards set by the Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA)
+ Maintains proper records for purchases or sales to other pharmacies (borrow/loan)
+ Documents all recalled drugs and action taken.
+ Ensures the departmental charging is done accurately Restock medication, IV dispensing and supply areas accurately within specified time periods.
Repackage bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques.
Pick up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
Maintain the process for patient and department charges, and that they are accurately and timely posted to accounts.
Maintain the process for monitoring controlled substance documentation and waste in accordance with state and federal regulations and policy and procedure.
Answers the telephones, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel.
Answers requests at the pharmacy and make stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.
Maintain medication storage appropriately per room temperature, refrigerator and freezer standards.
Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation accurately, files documentation in appropriate locations.
+ Maintain contract compliance through constant monitoring of purchases, proper use of shelf labels, Min/Max, bar codes, etc.
+ Processes invoices and credits daily.
+ Monitor statements or direct vendor log for invoices not paid.
+ Maintain a readily retrievable filing system for all invoices, billing, narcotic, and ancillary records. Demonstrate competence in automated dispensing equipment and adheres to established processes and procedures.
+ Load and refill medications from restock lists into automated distribution system correctly using barcode technology.
+ Empty and reconcile contents of automated distribution equipment return bins daily.
+ Review outdates daily within automated dispensing cabinets.
+ Ensures that look-alike, sound-alike medications are segregated in automated distribution equipment.
+ Maintains outdated medication tracking function, ensuring appropriate expiration dates are entered, stock is rotated and expired items removed from automated distribution equipment.
+ Maintains appropriate par levels for inventories in automated distribution equipment.
+ Accurately loads new inventory items and removes items deleted from inventory in automated distribution equipment.
+ Monitors automated distribution equipment stock-outs and resolve stock-outs in a timely manner.
+ Inspect medications in automated distribution equipment monthly, ensuring removal of expired and unusable medications and reconciliation of inventories with proper disposal of expired and unused medications. Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat and well organized. Keep pharmacy equipment clean.
+ Keeps medication storage area free from dust as needed.
+ Cleans high touch surfaces daily in the pharmacy with approved agents.
+ Maintains eye washing station(s) appropriately.
+ Removes all cardboard prior to end of shift. Assist or perform daily environmental cleaning of IV compounding.
Accurately gather components for IV compounding and documentation.
Collect data, conduct quality monitors and complete documentation as assigned.
Delivers and documents the distribution of narcotics and controlled substances to the patient care areas under the supervisor of the pharmacist.
Assists in preparing for and supervising physical inventory functions.
Reconcile charges, and credits patient accounts for drugs used during hospital admission.
Maintain all required training and education per department requirements.
Maintain security and confidentiality of passwords.
Adhere to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control. Complies with all applicable state, local and federal regulations.
Maintain safety, integrity and professionalism at all times.
Organize and prioritize work assignments.
Wear hospital badge identification while on duty.
Meet dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Conscientious in regard to personal hygiene.
Treats patients and families with respect and dignity. Assures confidentiality of patient records.
