Responsibilities
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Incumbents in this job perform supervisory pharmacist duties at the Utah State Hospital, including supervision of pharmacy staff, review of medications dispensed to patients, and regularly updating policies and procedures relevant to pharmacy.
Provides information concerning medications to physicians, patients, nurses and other staff, with emphasis on potentially hazardous medications and their handling.
Oversees single dose packaging and use of pharmacy automation machines
Orders and maintains strict inventory control of drugs, chemicals, or other controlled substances and ensures their security Analyzes utilization trends, pharmacy costs, and runs Pharmacy and Therapeutics Meetings quarterly
Prepares reports outlining medicinal and drug usage patterns.
Acts as a resource to team members and participates in team and professional meetings such as Infection Control and Performance Improvement Council.
Fills and re-fills prescriptions.
Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
Maintains records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, and inventories.
Plans, implement, or maintain procedures for packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
Assesses the identity strength, or purity of medications.
