The essential functions of a Pharmacist Manager in Prior Authorization are providing leadership to licensed pharmacists and licensed pharmacy techs who will utilize their expertise and customer service to support members, customers, and/or providers. This leadership position exists that proper supervision is provided to a team of pharmacist clinicians who are conducting clinical case review of medication coverage determination requests for prescribers and members with a direct impact on client satisfaction; while meeting business goals for the Wyoming Medicaid client.

  • Primary Responsibilities:
  • Position coordinates, supervises and is accountable for the daily operations as well as daily activities and performance of team (8-15 team members)
  • Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to the team to ensure quality, productivity, and regulatory / contractual goals and requirements are met
  • Provides a positive work environment and achieves creativity and teamwork among employees
  • Sets team direction, resolves problems and provides guidance to team
  • Ensures policy and procedures are appropriately followed. Identifies and communicates improvement opportunities and reports to the department Manager
  • Participates and provides representation in inter - department meetings and workgroups with the Clinical Services & Client Services teams of OptumRx to ensure Prior Authorization department issues and needs are addressed
  • Participates in quality improvement and process enhancement projects as assigned by management

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy
  • Active Wyoming State Pharmacist License
  • 2+ years of practicing pharmacist experience
  • Experience in direct and/or indirect leadership roles
  • Ability to work 8-hr shift, between the local hours of 7am to 7pm with flexibility, including weekends
  • Resident of Wyoming
  • Ability to travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming a minimum of 1 time a month
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of operations experience, leading tasks, staff and/or projects
  • 1+ years of experience in a client-facing role
  • Prior Authorization experience, Medical PA experience, previous supervisory experience, Managed care and/or PBM experience
  • Experience operationalizing medication clinical guidelines and / or plan benefits
  • Experience leading personnel towards the attainment of exceptional performance results
  • Knowledge of call center systems such as Pulse and/or IEX
  • Understanding of call center performance metrics and measurements
  • Basic navigation skills with Microsoft Excel (ability to create, edit, and save a basic spreadsheet), Microsoft Word (ability to create, edit, and save a basic document), and Microsoft Outlook (ability to send emails) and Microsoft Teams
Soft Skills:
  • Solid communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to hold team accountable
  • Ability to follow through on tasks
  • Needs to be able to strategize and understand business structure
  • Solid time management and attention to detail
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Frequent speaking, listening using a headset, sitting, use of hands/fingers across keyboard or mouse, handling other objects, long periods working at a computer
  • Ability to have their own home internet access (internet can be hard wired with ethernet cord)
  • Have a secure workspace/office in their home
  • Have intermediate level skill with working with PC (ex. using mouse and keyboard, accessing and navigating through multiple systems and screens)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
