The Permit and Compliance Coordinator manages the full lifecycle of permits and payments required for installation, modification, and maintenance of home elevators, stairlifts, vertical platform lifts, and other mobility equipment. Mobility123 processes over 1,000 permits per year, so exceptional organizational skills and experience managing high-volume permit workflows are required. This is an in-office role based in Absecon. No travel is required for permit work or inspections; field teams handle on-site inspections and municipality visits.
Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and submit permit applications, stamped plans, and related documentation to municipal and state agencies, including the New Jersey Division of Codes and Standards (DCA).
Apply for and obtain permits and approvals for elevator/lift scope plus building, electrical, and zoning approvals for both residential and commercial projects.
Manage a high-volume permit pipeline, handling 1,000+ permit transactions annually with precise record keeping and timely follow up.
Ensure all submissions are accurate and compliant with applicable codes for Mobility123's scope. Escalate code interpretation or DCA policy questions to the Operations Manager.
Track and manage the status of every permit from submission through final approval and issuance using a central permit tracker or database.
Proactively identify and resolve deficiencies raised by townships, inspectors, or the DCA to expedite approvals.
Serve as the primary office-based point of contact for customers, Project Managers, municipal officials, and the DCA on permit and compliance matters.
Coordinate inspection scheduling and required documentation with field teams; inspections and on-site presence are handled by field personnel. No travel required.
Manage, request, and process permit and inspection payments; reconcile permit-related expenses and maintain payment controls.
Organize and maintain electronic and physical files for permits, approvals, inspection reports, and correspondence.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of applicable building, electrical, zoning, and elevator/lift permitting requirements.
Provide timely permit status updates to customers and internal teams; escalate project impacts to Project Managers and Operations as needed.
Following up with architects to ensure we are receiving plans in a timely fashion

Skills
3+ years experience managing permits with municipal governments, building departments, or regulatory agencies. DCA experience is strongly preferred.
Direct experience with elevator codes and standards such as ASME A17.1 and ASME A18.1.
Experience preparing variance packets, code interpretations, or working directly with state regulatory agencies.
Proven ability to manage high-volume permitting workflows with exceptional attention to detail.
Experience applying for and obtaining building, electrical, elevator, and zoning permits for residential and commercial projects.
Solid understanding of the permitting process for construction or mechanical trades. Familiarity with elevator/lift permitting is a strong plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers, project teams, town officials, and the DCA.
Proficient with Google Sheets and comfortable learning permit-tracking databases and municipal e-permitting portals.
Able to work full time in our Absecon office; reliable commute required.
Familiar with Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
What success looks like (first 6 months)
Permit tracker implemented and adopted by the PM team.
Permit throughput and backlog metrics in place and trending toward target.
High-quality, complete submissions with fewer plan-correction requests from AHJs.
Smooth coordination of inspections with field teams and a measurable increase in first-visit passes.
Reporting Structure
Reports to the Operations Manager; works closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and field teams. Owns permit submission, inspection scheduling coordination, and municipal/DCA communications for Mobility123 scope. Escalate legal or broad DCA policy issues to the Operations Manager.
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
