Job Description

Horizon House is a nationally recognized provider of services to adults with support needs due to developmental disabilities, behavioral health issues, and substance abuse. Horizon House is Pennsylvania's oldest psychiatric rehabilitation agency. Since 1952, Horizon House has been dedicated to helping people with mental illness, drug and alcohol addictions, developmental/intellectual disabilities, and homelessness to stabilize their lives and to assist them to live as independently as possible in a community-based setting. With over 100 locations, Horizon House provides services to a diverse population focusing on individual strength and choice.



We are recruiting a qualified candidate for the role of

Peer Recovery Support Specialist

at our Wilmington, Delaware location.



This position provides recovery-oriented individual and group supportive services, crisis prevention/intervention, and educational services, to participants and collaterals such as family members and friends.



Some additional responsibilities would include the following:


Provide information and engage voluntary participants in discussions about the availability and benefits of peer support in the recovery process. Assist participants individually and in groups with the development of Wellness Recovery Action Plans. Provide group and individual counseling, support, and education to participants (and family members, friends, others at participant's request) around the acquisition and exercise of recovery skills, using and sharing his or her personal, practical experience, knowledge, and firsthand insight. Provide education and assistance with the development of individualized illness self-management, coping skills, and wellness strategies.

Qualifications:




High school diploma or GED required. Has lived experience as a current or former recipient of mental health and/or co-occurring services, with the willingness to appropriately self-identify and share personal experiences as part of peer support. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Scope:




Frequent talking and listening. Manual dexterity, ability to lift, carries up to 25 lbs., fold, kneel, reach, stoop, and bend. Ability to work outside scheduled hours in emergency situations. Local travel required and may include transporting program participants by car or van. May be required to report to work during emergencies, including inclement weather.
