This position is responsible for providing recidivism/risk-reducing programs/classes at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF). The skills-building classes instructed will include, but not be limited to the following: career readiness, parenting, improving family relationships, cognitive behavioral skills-building, substance abuse, introduction to work release readiness, and others as directed by supervisor. This position also works closely with Reentry and Unit Team to assist the Case Management ReEntry Administrator and Classification Administrator in ensuring that program slots are maximized, and that offenders of all risk levels have access to risk reduction and recidivism-reducing classes, services and interventions, using good time as an incentive for successful completions.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
The incumbent in this position works in collaboration with the Reentry Counselor in delivering Reentry Groups, including Core Adult, Career Readiness, Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Substance Abuse, Inside Out Dad, Parenting Inside Out, Improving Family Relationships, finances, and various skills-building courses to address their risk areas. Delivery of skills-building schedules for offenders is intended to match appropriate dose levels with offender risk needs, tailoring groups for high risk populations which may include but are not limited to Intensive Management Units, Security Management Units, Administrative Segregation Units, and Behavior Management Units.
This position is responsible for identifying community alliances within a 100-mile radius from the facility to provide communities information about Risk Reduction and Reentry efforts. The incumbent is to identify potential for partnerships in those regions to further the development of employment opportunities, transportation options, and housing prospects for offenders. This position is responsible for pooling resources to broker co-facilitators and facilitators, including Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) staff, contract staff, volunteers, and community partners. The incumbent is to develop resource lists/directories to provide to Case Managers and participants in efforts to connect offenders to those resources, matching the offender with necessary opportunities prior to release. This position shall serve as a Unit Team resource within the facility and assist with release plans, community contacts, and potential resources.
This position is responsible for identifying a method with the ECF Reentry Unit Team Manager and/ or Case Management ReEntry Administrator to categorize offenders sixty months from release who meet high risk and moderate risk criteria. Duties include interviewing high risk and moderate risk offenders and establish programming needs prior to placement, formulating a caseload of offenders for delivery of Reentry programs, forming schedules, monitoring all administrative aspects of the participants, including working with Unit Team in the referral process, identifying and reviewing potential offenders, addressing readiness and responsivity, screening referrals, and making placements.
This position is responsible for meeting quality/fidelity standards, tracking all participants who begin Reentry programs, monitoring progress to reduce failures, ensuring Facility Program Experience Records (FPER) codes are accurately completed, and all necessary ATHENA entries are documented. The incumbent maintains regular contact with Unit Team, Parole, and Mentors, providing feedback regarding participant progress as appropriate.
This position works closely with facility leadership to identify gaps in available classes and services for all risk levels, including Senate Bill (SB) 14 eligible, to ensure offenders have access to classes and activities that decrease the risk of recidivism, using good time as an incentive, making recommendations and takes steps to reduce gaps.

Six months of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, the behavioral sciences, or business management or related field and one (1) year of experience working planning, implementing, and monitoring activities relevant to offenders in corrections. Agency approved substitution for bachelor's degree: 60 semester hours of college credit, with twelve (12) hours in corrections or related field, and three (3) years of experience working with offenders in corrections.

Demonstrates professional alignment with evidence-based practices including cognitive-based skills-building programs, classes and interventions.
Strong facilitation skills, including ability to be purposeful, engaging and respectful with offenders, and flow with group dynamics during skills-building classes.
