Payroll Operations Analyst

Position Summary
A professional that processes day-to-day activities of the payroll function. Processes nonexempt and exempt payroll associated
with new hires, rehires, promotions, raises, tax information, benefit deductions, awards, leaves of absence, relocation
reimbursements and bonuses, garnishments child support withholding, etc. This role will have specialized payroll-related duties
that require skill in evaluating and analyzing employee pay data. Prepares materials for external and internal auditors. A high
degree of organization and attention to detail is required.
Position Duties/ Essential Functions

  • 30.00% Responsible for controlling timely and accurate processing, balancing, auditing and completion for all assigned payroll
input through internal systems. Ensures that only authorized salary information is used and proper accounts are affected.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality of associate information and integrity in all aspects of their work.
  • 10.00% Perform payroll audits to ensure error free payroll and compliance with government, state regulations and company
policies.
  • 5.00% Extract necessary data from the payroll/personnel system to satisfy various internal and external reporting requirements.
Send ACH file to bank. Prepare payroll wires for treasury departments. Send 401(K) and related files to fund manager.
  • 7.00% Performs a variety of payroll related month-end closing responsibilities and responsible for quarter and year-end
processes. Complete monthly, quarterly, and yearly payroll reports as needed or requested.
  • 10.00% Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage and hour laws. Responsible for
assisting with all payroll tax deposits/filings.
  • 5.00% Works collaboratively with payroll management and team members to analyze, modify and enhance payroll tools and
develop innovative solutions necessary to meet organizational control and documentation requirements.
  • 5.00% Assist with testing and implementation of payroll applications to include Lawson and BSI functional enhancements and tax
updates.
  • 5.00% Assists with day-to-day payroll administration and acting as a point of contact for inquiries and issues related to payroll.
Communicate effectively to all levels of the organization. Provide quality customer service for both internal and external
customers. Collaborate with various departments to include Accounts Payable, Accounting and Treasury.
  • 1.00% Process and distribute payroll checks as required. Maintain payroll files and check/advice stock. Responsible for
coordination efforts to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee payroll data.
  • 22.00% Works closely with HR organizations with regards to bonus calculations, financial data for bonus programs, and
calculation of fringe benefit rates, manual adjustments to benefit plans, leave of absence payments. Serves as the primary analyst
responsible for uploading, balancing and troubleshooting data files containing earnings, deductions or payroll memo related data
and coordinates this process with other payroll team members and assisting them with balancing and processing as needed.
Supports and provides audit assistance to a variety of internal and external auditors. Other duties as assigned.
Skills
  • Accounting experience; Accounting 101 GL
  • A high degree of organization and attention to detail is required
  • Working knowledge of an automated payroll system, tax laws and employee benefit regulations
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, auditing concepts and internal controls
  • General knowledge of HR, payroll, and timekeeping
  • Proficient software skills \xe2\x80\x93MS Word and intermediate to advance MS Excel skills
  • Lawson Payroll applications working experience a plus
  • Business Objectives knowledge - Ability to run ad hoc reports
  • Flow charting or VISIO skills a plus
  • SharePoint skill a plus
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures
  • Ability to grasp new concepts, learn quickly, convey ideas verbally and in written form

Unusual Hours Description: High overtime hours required in short payroll turnaround periods as well as January for year end
processing and for starting out the new year (new payroll transactions, W 2 processing, year end
closing of general ledger). Payroll is very deadline oriented which requires flexibility in working
hours if necessary.
