POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Coordinator supports the accurate and timely processing of citywide payroll by coordinating payroll activities, verifying data, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, policies, and collective bargaining agreements. This role works closely with departments and stakeholders to maintain the integrity of payroll operations, ensuring those who serve the City of Pittsburgh are paid correctly and on schedule.

Qualifying Requirements

:

Your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will receive notice of your eligibility status.

WORK EXPERIENCE

: The application must clearly show two

years of full-time professional experience in coordinating and administering the operations of a medium-sized automated payroll system. This experience should include coordinating the work of others.

(Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)

EDUCATION/TRAINING

: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.

EQUIVALENCY

: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is six

POSITION DUTIES

Coordinates the preparation, processing, and reconciliation of citywide payroll using the City's payroll system (e.g., Dayforce or future platforms). Verifies payroll data, adjustments, and deductions to ensure accuracy and compliance. Collaborates with departmental timekeepers and HR staff to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure timely payment to employees. Processes wage attachments such as child support, tax levies, and garnishments in accordance with legal requirements. Supports payroll-related onboarding tasks for new and rehired employees, including tax forms, direct deposit setup, and system access. Maintains accurate payroll records and assists in generating reports and documentation as needed. Coordinates payments to third-party vendors and agencies (e.g., pension funds, deferred compensation, charitable contributions). Assists in the implementation and improvement of payroll systems and processes. Ensures payroll practices align with collective bargaining agreements, civil service rules, and applicable laws and regulations. Serves as a liaison between City departments, external agencies, and internal stakeholders on payroll matters. Upholds confidentiality and data integrity in all payroll-related activities. Performs related duties as assigned to support the overall payroll function.
