Patient Registration Specialist

Job Description

The Patient Registration Specialist is the first point of contact for patients arriving for services. This role handles patient check-in, verifies eligibility and insurance, collects necessary demographics and financial information, and ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements. The role also assists with scheduling and coordination with clinical and financial departments.

Key Responsibilities



Greet, assist, and register patients arriving at clinic, ensuring a welcoming experience Collect and verify patient demographic, insurance, and financial information Determine eligibility and benefits, verify insurance coverage, and obtain prior authorizations when needed Enter and maintain accurate patient records in the electronic Medical record (EMR) Collect payments Assess eligibility for sliding fee scale or financial assistance and complete required documentation Schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments as needed Coordinate with clinical, billing, and administrative teams to resolve registration issues Scan, file, and maintain registration documents Generate reports, maintain metrics, and support data entry tasks Ensure compliance with HIPAA, privacy rules, and organizational policies Handle front?desk duties (check-in line/patient flow) Assist with special projects or process improvement tasks as assigned

Qualifications



Required:

High school diploma or equivalent Minimum 1-2 years of experience in healthcare, medical front office, registration, or patient access Knowledge of medical insurance, eligibility, and third?party payers Familiarity with electronic health record and practice management systems Strong customer service and communication skills Detail oriented with good data entry accuracy Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and work under pressure

Preferred:

Experience in a high-volume clinic or FQHC environment Understanding of sliding fee scales, public programs (Medicaid, Medicare) Experience in verifying eligibility, prior authorization, or claims processing

Working Conditions



Primarily clinic / front office environment Frequent interaction with patients, staff, and external parties Use of computer, phone, and other office equipment May require early/late shifts or weekend rotations Occasional travel between clinic sites (if needed)
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $12.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
