Position Summary





Serves as a liaison between consumers of healthcare services and Kootenai Health personnel, including coordination, investigation, and resolution of patient grievances concerning the quality of care and services by following the organization's formal grievance process.



Responsibilities





Advocates on behalf of patients/families regarding their inclusion in the patient/family experience



Serves as a central resource for information concerning patients' rights and responsibilities, advance directives, and ethical issues



Responds to requests for intervention to assist in managing difficult patient/family situations



Drafts formal written responses to patients and families



Generates specific reports to identify areas in need of improvement efforts including progress, obstacles, and trends in compliment/complaint data for various committees



Conducts audits for patient rights and ADA



Conducts rounds with patients/families in clinical areas to obtain preemptive feedback regarding the inpatient hospital experience



Leads the effort to collect, analyze, and evaluate patient satisfaction data related to patient experience, utilizing feedback to facilitate system improvements to better meet patient needs



Masters an understanding of the organization's mission, policies, procedures, and services to respond to patient questions or concerns; refers patients to appropriate services and resources



Provides expertise on patient needs and expectations and acts to educate staff and physicians concerning these issues



Coordinates implementation of regulatory standards, such as DNV, Centers for Medicare, and Medicaid, along with state and federal laws pertaining to patient's rights, advance directives, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and ethical issues



Provides guidance and/or consultation to committees that affect patient needs and respect for patient rights.



Participates with other committees as indicated or when appropriate



Promotes confidentiality, respect, and dignity for all persons as standards for the department and organization



Performs other related duties as assigned



Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field



Relies on independent judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals



Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function



Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications





Bachelor's degree in communication, social work, or health related profession required, or 3 years of related healthcare experience may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree



Proven experience in customer service and de-escalation techniques

HR will also request documentation for any new requirements for your position, including experience, education, licensure, certification, etc. If EPIC training is required for your role and you have not completed the required module for your position, please complete an EPIC Fast Track Attestation at https://kh.org/epicfasttrack If an advanced background check with Health and Welfare is required for your role and you have not completed one previously, you will need to complete the process before your transfer date.
