Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) encompass a team-based work environment in which we support online instruction and learning across the Indiana University (IU) system. The TLT team includes instructional designers, technologists, and developers who collaborate to design, build, and enhance online courses that meet accessibility standards and leverage best practices in instructional design. Team members often work in distributed environments, collaborating across campuses in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and beyond.


Job Summary

The TLT Game Developer will work with a team of TLT instructional designers, TLT instructional technologists, and faculty members from various disciplines to design and develop interactive experiences to be used as part of online courses at Indiana University. The game developer will consult on the best environments and approaches for developing different types of games (casual games, adventure games, online card games etc.).


Department-Specific Responsibilities

Designs and builds engaging games and learning activities for IU courses Adds and edits content in Canvas to facilitate access to interactive material, including using basic HTML. Explores new educational technologies, researches how they can be used effectively, and writes content for web pages that promote their use by faculty and students. Tests interactive content to ensure all learners can access and understand it. Provides feedback from a student perspective.

EDUCATION

Required



Bachelor's degree.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred



Experience teaching or providing instructional support at the college or university level.

SKILLS

Required



Knowledge of and experience with game-building environments such as Unity, Unreal engine, Construct, etc. Knowledge of and experience with deploying games as native mobile applications for the Apple and Android platforms. Demonstrated understanding of fundamental graphic design principles and accompanying tools (Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.). Understanding of game theory; able to provide guidance in the design of gameplay modes that reinforce instructional goals and learning objectives. Ability to iterate rapidly, based on feedback from faculty member and supporting course design team.

Preferred



Fundamental web development experience (HTML/Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)/JavaScript). Understanding of basic accessibility principles. Familiarity with online learning environments and emerging educational technologies, either as an instructor or learner.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate in synchronous and asynchronous environments, and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Teaching and Learning Technologies is looking for an Indiana University student to work part-time as a game developer, designing and building engaging learning games for both for-credit and not-for-credit courses.
