Statement of Job:

The University of Southern Maine\'s Physics Department is seeking part-time faculty members to teach Physics courses for the Fall 2023 semester, beginning August 28, 2023.

We are seeking student-focused instructors who will have full responsibility for course delivery and grading.

Courses to be taught may include:

Physics 101 (PHY 101) is an elementary approach to the study of mechanics, heat, sound, electricity, magnetism, light, and modern physics, intended for the student who desires a one-semester introduction to the subject with emphasis on concepts as opposed to problem solving.

Physics 102 (PHY 102) is a laboratory course designed to supplement topics in Physics 101.

Physics 114 (PHY 114) is a laboratory course designed to supplement topics in Elements of Physics (PHY 111) and General Physics (PHY 121).

Introductory Physics Laboratory (PHY 116) is a lab course designed to illustrate the concepts studied in Elements of Physics (PHY 112) and General Physics (PHY 123). This lab course will meet two hours per week.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit-hour basis based on prior teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor\'s degree in Physics
• Previous teaching experience at the university or college level is preferred but not required.
