Direct Care Staff are the backbone of Courage House. They provide 24/7 support and supervision for adolescent residents, model healthy behaviors, ensure safety, implement daily schedules, and engage youth in recreational and theraputic activites. They also document services, manage crises, and support trauma-informed treatment goals under the guidance of the Clinical Director and Home Administrator.
Responsibilities
As with all Courage House staff, the responsibility of the staff tasked with the direct care of the residents is to ensure the individual care, safety, and supervision of the residents who live at Courage House. In addition, the Residential Care Supervisor will ensure each resident's personal needs are met in accordance with the Courage House family culture as well as the Courage House Program Statement, Courage House policies and procedures, and state regulations. The Residential Care Supervisor will also have responsibility to engage the residents in the care, safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of the actual home and, when asked for, the outside property including barn, garden, pond, etc., as needed and directed by the Home Administrator/Manager.
The Residential Care Supervisor will be punctual in reporting for scheduled shifts and notifying the Home Administrator/Manager in cases involving emergencies or other factors that may influence work attendance, early shift leave, and punctuality. At no time can the Residential Care Supervisor leave or fail to attend the scheduled shift without prior verbal approval from the House Administrator/Manager. They will be flexible and available to work any and all shifts assigned.
The Residential Care Supervisor will act as the responsible party for all non-medical care during hours scheduled to work. They will develop a healthy relationship with each resident (whether individually or as a group) within a family-style environment in accordance with the Courage House culture and policies defined and outlined in the Courage House Program Statement and in compliance with each resident's individual treatment plans.
The Residential Care Supervisor will handle any incidents, crises, perceived danger, runaways, and/or conflicts in a professional and loving manner consistent with the Courage House Program Statement and crisis training. They will be able to notify all emergency personnel and necessary staff members in crisis situations and complete all necessary paperwork related to incidents in a thorough and timely manner
The Residential Care Supervisor will assist and supervise the administration of medication as prescribed by a physician during scheduled hours of work. They will centrally store and distribute a resident's prescribed and over-the-counter medication(s) during scheduled hours of work. They will document all distributions of medication.
The Residential Care Supervisor will supervise the residents and provide skill training as needed in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and healthy family home environment. They will be aware of and keep the home environment clean at all times whether a resident aids in the task of not. They will be able to plan, supervise, prepare, and clean up all daily meals and nutritious snacks occurring during scheduled shifts. They will supervise and provide skill training in meal preparation, food groups, and nutrition education for residents as needed. They will be aware of approved and needed items for the entire home including food, pantry, personal hygiene, laundry, bedroom, etc. They will provide a list of needed items to the House Administrator/Manager prior to needing and/or running out of items.
The Residential Care Supervisor will supervise and provide life skill training in such duties as washing/folding clothes, making beds, ironing clothes, choosing outfits appropriate for occasions, setting a table, table manners, etc. as directed by the Home Administrator/Manager. They will teach and role model appropriate conflict management resolution skills, relational boundaries, emotional health, and healthy relationships. They will transport residents to appointments, outings, and family visitations as directed by the Social Worker/Case Manager.
They will check in with the staff members from the previous shift for a brief debriefing regarding the day and review the residents' daily logs and staff communication binder at the beginning of each scheduled shift. They will provide a concise debriefing to the next scheduled shift prior to leaving the scheduled shift. They will ensure all daily documentation is completed, including but not limited to: the staff communication log, resident daily logs, case notes, incident reports, medication files, resident phone logs, daily duty checklists, etc
The Residential Care Supervisor will ensure compliance with all Courage House expectations and policies with all residents, staff, and volunteers. They will address any conflicts and concerns directly with staff in a professional, loving, and confidential manner. They will consistently seek to maintain unity and cohesion in the home and respect all members of the home (staff, residents, and volunteers). They will assist in participating in weekly internal audits to ensure all state regulations are being adhered to.
The Residential Care Supervisor will attend all staff meetings as directed, even when not during the assigned shift. They will participate in continuing education and training events described in the training plan of the Program Statement's policies and procedures. They will accept directives from the Executive Director that may be in addition to the duties outlined above on an as-needed basis to ensure the health of the program.
Educational/Professional Qualifications:
? Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
OR
? High school or equivalency diploma AND one year experience directly supervising youth whether in a group, residential setting; recreational camp capacity; or related experience.
? Preference given to those with the following experience:
o Child development
o Psychology
o Sociology
o Criminology
o Have experience working with the client group to be served or in a residential
setting.
Courage Worldwide Minimum Requirements:
? Must be at least 21 years of age.
? Must be fully ambulatory for the safety of the children and safety for themselves.
? A passion to see children (adolescents) who have experienced sexual abuse and the
additional trauma of commercial sexual exploitation experience healing, life change,
and purposeful living and believe that can happen under the conditions proposed in
the vision statement for Courage House.
? Must maintain good physical health and emotional maturity.
? Must have the ability and stamina to work with the population at Courage House
within state/national regulations and Courage House policy even if regulations/policy
goes against personal beliefs.
? Must have flexibility in work hours, programs, and services.
? Must uphold the organization's core values and vision.
? Must have the ability and desire to work with residents, staff, and/or volunteers with
varying faith backgrounds.
? Must have experience in working as part of a team.
? Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
? If employee will have driving responsibilities:
o In the U.S., must have a current and valid driver's license and seven years driving experience. Must have a clean DMV/driving record.
o Must have proof of current, effective drivers insurance.
? If employment is in the United States:
o Must have clearance from Criminal Information Center (CIC).
o Must have clearance from National Crime Information Database (NCID).
o Must have a criminal Background and Central Registry check (MS Code 43-15-6).
o Must have proof of current and effective first aid and CPR training, or will
receive it within 30 days of hire.
? If employment is outside of the United States:
o Must have clearance from relevant national criminal justice agencies.
o Must have a criminal background check to the fullest extent possible.
o Must have proof of current and effective first aid and CPR training, or will receive it within 30 days of hire.
? Must have a clean bill of health and completed TB clearance.
? Must have good time management skills and an ability to multitask.
? Must be able to self-initiate activities/tasks.
