Dermatology Specialists is a well-established and respected dermatology healthcare group with over 40 years of experience delivering exceptional patient care. Our Dexter location is seeking a Part-Time Mohs Histotechnician.
We are looking for a motivated and highly organized Mohs Histotechnologist to join our team. The Mohs Histotech plays a crucial role in the Mohs micrographic surgery procedure. This role involves preparing tissue specimens to assist the surgeon in determining the presence of cancer cells. The Mohs Histotech works closely with the Mohs surgeon to ensure accurate and timely results.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive, label, and log tissue specimens from Mohs surgeries.
Prepare tissue sections using appropriate techniques, such as freezing, embedding, and cutting.
Stain tissue sections using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and other stains as needed.
Examine stained tissue sections under a microscope to identify and evaluate the presence of cancer cells.
Document findings and communicate results to the Mohs surgeon in a timely manner.
Ensure the accuracy and quality of laboratory results by following established protocols and quality control procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Properly maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, including microscopes, cryostats, and staining machines.
Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including specimen logs, staining records, and quality control data.
Maintain and ensure accuracy to all CLIA required documentation/logs.
Coordinate and collaborate with Mohs clinical team to ensure all department tasks are completed each day
Qualifications:
Associate's degree or higher in histotechnology or a related field (preferred)
Certification in histotechnology (CHT)- (preferred)
Strong knowledge of histology techniques and procedures (required)
Excellent microscopy skills and ability to identify tissue abnormalities
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
Ability to use fine motor skills for tasks such as cutting tissue sections.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
Work Environment:
Laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals and biological materials.
Potential exposure to hazardous materials.
