Department: Parks and Recreation

Supervisor: Director of Parks, Trails, and Recreation



Bargaining Unit: Teamsters

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 40 hours per week. Shifts may vary as needed and may include evenings and weekends.




PARKS TECHNICIAN I:





Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair and maintenance of City parks, trails, and recreational facilities.

EXPERIENCE WITH SPLASH PADS OR RELATED RECREATIONAL WATER SYSTEMS IS HIGHLY PREFERRED!






/ Essential Duties:




These job functions are the essential duties of the position and are not all-inclusive of all the duties the incumbent may be assigned.


Maintains all City parks, trails, and recreational facilities to ensure they are in an attractive and safe condition. Duties shall include, but not be limited to, mowing, maintaining irrigation systems, maintaining pet stations, cleaning, and stocking restroom facilities, and operating and maintaining the skate park, splash pad, playground equipment and other recreational facilities and areas; Clears snow from trails and sidewalks around City-owned facilities, including park and recreational facilities, as needed; Assists with the planning, scheduling and implementation of construction, maintenance, and operation and construction activities designed to provide parks facilities and systems; Assists in the training of other employees to increase their skill of maintenance, construction and repair of park facilities and systems; Inspects and/or repairs various equipment at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly; Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activity; Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use; Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment including but not limited to fueling, checking fluid levels, greasing, assessing the overall condition of machines and cleaning the interior and exterior of trucks, equipment, machinery, tools etc.; Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; Determines the locations of utilities and irrigation components as required prior to excavation; Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards; Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew; and Other duties as assigned.

Works under the general supervision of the Parks Foreperson or as assigned.




PARKS TECHNICIAN II:





Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair and maintenance parks, trails, and recreational facilities. Serves as the irrigation system technician and performs all setup, maintenance, and repair functions of the systems in the City.

These job functions are the essential duties of the position and are not all-inclusive of all the duties the incumbent may be assigned.

Performs advanced level work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's irrigation systems. Maintains all City parks, trails, and recreational facilities to ensure they are in an attractive and safe condition. Duties shall include, but not be limited to, mowing, maintaining irrigation systems, maintaining pet stations, cleaning, and stocking restroom facilities, and operating and maintaining the skate park, splash pad, playground equipment and other recreational facilities and areas. Clears snow from trails, sidewalks around City-owned facilities and other park and recreational facilities as needed. Assists with the planning, scheduling and implementation of construction, maintenance, and operation and construction activities designed to provide parks facilities and systems. PARKS TECHNICIAN I Minimum Required Qualifications (Education, Experience and Training):




Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent; and Some parks-maintenance related experience is preferred, including the operation of mowers, weedeaters, and other related equipment. Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work may be considered.



Special Requirements/Licenses or Certificates:




Must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to obtain a Montana driver's license within 60 days of employment. Must obtain the Montana Pool Operator certificate within six months of employment. May be required to obtain Weed/Pest Control applicator's license. Offers of employment are conditional upon satisfactory completion of a pre-employment background check, reference checks, and driving record check.



PARKS TECHNICIAN II Minimum Required Qualifications (Education, Experience and Training):



Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent; and At least one (1) year parks maintenance related experience, including the operation of mowers, weedeaters, and other related equipment; and At least one (1) year experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems; or Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work may be considered.


Special Requirements/Licenses or Certificates:

Tools and Equipment Used:




Motorized vehicles and equipment including but not limited to pickup truck, utility truck, manlift, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, lawn maintenance equipment, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, and phone.

Suggest improvements in safety training requirements or programs to Supervisor. * Identify unsafe work conditions and unsafe practices. Correct hazards or report them to supervisor as appropriate.
