Description
General Butler State Resort Park, located in the heart of the Bluegrass, in Carrollton, KY, provides all the peace and tranquility of the country while only minutes from the city. With the Butler-Turpin Historic Home, CCC buildings and structures, General Butler State Resort Park is steeped in history and looking towards the future.



The Park Program Service Supervisor is a highly skilled, creative, self-motivated team member, providing expertise in outdoor recreational activities, community events, historical programing and administration of the department. This position will operate and oversee all facets of natural, cultural, and historical interpretation and recreation. As a fluent communicator, duties would include training others and being the vital link of information on the necessities of the park, so it can operate efficiently.



The Parks Program Services Supervisor reports directly to the Park Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Creating, implementing and evaluating programs and special events offered to park visitors year-round Creating, implementing and evaluating a weekly program schedule during periods of high visitation Interviewing, hiring and training seasonal staff as needed Conducting inspections and completing inspection reports for playground and hiking trails Completing additional reporting, i.e. entertainment reports, group reports, pool reports, etc. Recreational programming to include Cultural, Historical, and Biological Interpretation

Previous management or work experience in a park setting

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:

Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor recreation, park resource interpretation, physical education, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field.



EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:

Two years experience as a park naturalist, park interpreter, environmental educator, conservation educator, in planned outdoor recreation, or physical education.



Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:

A master's degree in recreation, park resource interpretation, physical education, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field will substitute for one year of the required experience.



Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:

Related experience as a park naturalist, park interpreter, environmental educator, conservation educator, in planned outdoor recreation or physical education, recreation, park resource interpretation, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed outdoors at an assigned park. Extensive contact with the public is required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 9 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
