The purpose of this position is to patrol parks and the beach, provide customer service interaction and education, enforce rules and regulations, and open and close assigned parks. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Essential Functions

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Patrols park facilities for unsafe and deteriorating conditions in City of Deerfield Beach parks and facilities, and report inspection results verbally and in writing.
Provides customer service and acts as a source of information and assistance to inform the public of park information, rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and municipal codes.
Anticipates and solves problems and/or provides reports to appropriate agency.
Educates park visitors on park amenities, safety rules, and regulations.
Issues notices of park exclusions for violations and determines need for and calls for police assistance.
Corrects and/or reports any conditions that involve damage, theft, vandalism, or hazard.
Completes incident reports and other routine documentation.
Directs vehicle and boat traffic inside park boundaries, and aids motorists and boaters as required.
Coordinates efforts with law enforcement, park and recreation, and other city departments and staff.
Drives to various parks facilities at various hours (day and night) and opens and closes/secures City of Deerfield Beach parks and its facilities as scheduled.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
Three (3) years of customer service and/or Park Ranger experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
CPR/First Aid Certifications (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Work Environment and Work Hours
Knowledge of city practices, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of city safety rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and municipal codes.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in data analysis and problem-solving.
Ability to operate and effectively communicate via two-way radio.
Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions.
Ability to learn different skills and apply them to various job duties.
Ability to drive at night
Ability to complete computer trainings and use smart phone
Must be available to work any assigned shift/any assigned area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
+ Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
+ Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
+ Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
+ Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
+ Traffic; Moving machinery.
WORK HOURS
Monday - Sunday hours may vary between the times of 5:30am -9:30pm (will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business needs of the City)
