Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Education
Job Purpose:
To assist assigned special education student(s) in the classroom providing the appropriate support detailed in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Assist the classroom teacher with creating and maintaining a learning environment conducive to the student's learning needs.
Qualifications-Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Ability to work well with school age students
Ability to read and write English
Ability to speak English clearly and accurately
Ability to communicate effectively
Excellent interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented
Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
Ability to support one-on-one student or small groups 3-4 students
Ability to follow directions
Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks
Ability to exercise "good" judgment
Must be able to pass the NJ Criminal History Review
Must be able to pass the post-offer physical examination
Must be able to submit the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure Form
Must be able to work with children who have moderate to severe special needs
Qualifications-Desired:
1-2 years of experience working with special needs students
Associate's Degree
NJ Substitute Certification
Computer literate
Duties/Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with the student(s), classroom teacher, and student's parent/guardian
Maintains the safety of the student by providing a safe, organized environment for effective and independent learning
Provides student(s) with supportive and supplemental instructional assistance
Provides assistance with academics in all academic areas
Accompanies student(s) to special events and to other classrooms, including music, art, and physical education
Reviews and reinforces skills and concepts taught by the classroom teacher
Sets up and maintains special classroom equipment and learning centers under the direction of the classroom teacher
Instructs individual and small groups of students using instruction objectives from lessons developed by the classroom teacher
Provides assistance with individualized program materials-written and oral
