Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position is responsible for the oversight of the Advanced Life Support (ALS) System. The duties include\xef\xbf\xbdmonitoring the county paramedic services to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, ensuring that all residents and visitors to Delaware receive proper ALS care, managing and administering an emergency medical services public health program, managing financial policies and procedures and evaluating techniques for monitoring program\xef\xbf\xbdoperations.\\r\

Essential Functions

Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.\\r\ \\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Develops standards and an approval process for county advanced life support program delivery.\\r\ \\r\ Identifies paramedic needs in each county and assists in the recruitment of personnel to achieve advanced life support (ALS) coverage throughout the State.\\r\ \\r\ Coordinates the development of reciprocity and mutual aid agreements between counties to assure that county and State boundaries do not adversely affect patient care.\\r\ \\r\ Assures accessibility of training and continuing education opportunities necessary for paramedic certification.\\r\ \\r\ Develops standards and approval process for educational programs to train paramedics and provide technical assistance to educational institutions to ensure statewide Advanced Life Support program needs are met.\\r\ \\r\ Develops and implements quality assurance program for Advanced Life Support service delivery to ensure deficiencies are identified and corrected.\\r\ \\r\ Conducts periodic inspections of facilities employing paramedics to verify certification of all employed paramedics.\\r\ \\r\ Prepares annual budget for the development and maintenance of the Advanced Life Support Systems program.\\r\ \\r\ Prepares required reports.\\r\ \\r\ Provides staff support to the Paramedic Advisory Council to assure members have input on all aspects of the paramedic program. \\r\ \\r\ \\r\

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Paramedic Administrator \\r\ Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: \\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Three years experience in health or human services work\xef\xbf\xbdsuch as\xef\xbf\xbdapplying theories, principles, laws and practices of health or human services programs and services that assist with and improve life for individuals, families, or communities such as financial support, employment, unemployment, housing, health care, disease prevention, substance abuse, child protective services, physical/mental health treatment and prevention or\xef\xbf\xbdrehabilitation. \\r\ Six months experience in\xef\xbf\xbd health or human services program administration such as overseeing and directing the development, implementation and evaluation of health or human services programs and services; planning and establishing short and long range program goals and objectives. Providing advice to other agency organizational units through consultation. \\r\ Six months experience in budget development which includes developing a budget, analyzing financial data and making long and short range plans and projections. \\r\ Six months experience in developing policies and procedures.\\r\ Six months experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.\\r\ \\r\
