Join our government client, a state police legal office, as a professional staff employee with primary responsibility for assisting the Department's Legal Counsel and members of the Legal Office. This onsite role involves supporting various legal functions, including expungement processes, research, document preparation, and administrative tasks. Essential Responsibilities
Assist Legal Counsel in Department litigation.
Conduct research on legal issues, statutes, judicial decisions, articles, treaties, and codes.
Prepare affidavits, briefs, pleadings, appeals, and contracts for review.
Respond to discovery requests and coordinate documentation for subpoenas.
Act as a liaison with the Attorney General's Office for ongoing Department litigations.
Investigate facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and prepare supporting documentation.
Act as law librarian, maintaining and monitoring legal volumes.
Ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents.
Review Indiana Code and Administrative Code, proposing language changes.
Answer phones for Legal Office personnel.
Compile and prepare answers to requests for Production, Admission, and Interrogatories.
Draft and prepare legal notices, subpoenas, witness lists, and other documents for the State Police Board.
Draft and prepare litigation lists for the State Police Board.
Process and assign incoming Public Records Requests and expungement orders.
Process attendance records and compile training hours for Legal Office personnel.
Register/schedule staff attorneys for Continuing Legal Education.
Serve as a liaison to the legislature and on interview committees as required.
Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Paralegal certification with 2 years of paralegal experience.
2 years of basic computer skills.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Strong attention to detail.
Able to communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and orally.
Prior experience handling sensitive or confidential information.
Onsite work arrangement, Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3 pm or 8 am to 4 pm.
Must pass a 5-panel drug screen and ISP background check.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with Legal Research sites (LexisNexis and Westlaw).
Prior experience conceptualizing and developing programs and procedures.
Paralegal competency certification (e.g., PACE, CORE, CLA/CP).
Associate's degree (or higher) with paralegal studies certification.
