JOB SUMMARY




The PACS Administrator is responsible for the management, maintenance, and support of the hospital's Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and associated imaging technologies. This position ensures that all radiology and clinical imaging workflows operate efficiently, securely, and in compliance with healthcare regulations. The PACS Administrator serves as the primary liaison between Radiology, Information Services, and other clinical departments to optimize imaging system performance, troubleshoot issues, and support integration with the hospital's Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other clinical systems.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS




System Administration & Maintenance





Administer, configure, and monitor PACS and related imaging systems.


Ensure data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery readiness for imaging records.


Manage PACS user accounts, roles, and permissions.


Coordinate system upgrades, patches, and enhancements with vendors and IT leadership.



Workflow Optimization & Support





Work closely with Radiology, Cardiology, and other departments to support clinical workflows.


Identify and resolve issues related to image acquisition, storage, routing, and retrieval.


Provide end-user training and technical support for clinical staff and physicians.


Develop and maintain PACS documentation, policies, and procedures.


Maintains Cerner RadNet build and participates in upgrades and testing



Integration & Compliance




Collaborate with Information Systems to ensure integration with EHR, RIS, and other applications.


Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, and other healthcare data security standards.


Monitor system performance and proactively address vulnerabilities or inefficiencies.



Vendor & Project Coordination




Serve as primary contact with PACS vendors and imaging equipment manufacturers.


Participate in planning and implementation of new imaging technologies or system expansions.


Assist in budgeting and procurement for PACS-related projects.



POSITION QUALIFICATIONS





Education, Experience & License




Associate's degree in Information Systems, Healthcare Technology, or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.


Minimum of 3 years of experience in PACS administration, healthcare IT, or medical imaging systems support.


Experience with healthcare IT standards (DICOM, HL7, IHE) required.


Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting strongly preferred.



Additional Skills






Demonstrated competency in project management.


Cerner experience desired.


Demonstrated working knowledge of current communications devices and protocols, server and desktop technologies.


Ability to manage multiple activities and tasks simultaneously.


Facilitation and change management skills.


Highly developed verbal and written communications.


Ability to communicate in English; both verbally and in writing.


Excellent customer service skills.


Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access expected.


Efficient use of SMH help desk application is required.
