Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Boring Operator to join our Outside Plant (OSP) construction team. This role involves operating directional boring equipment to install underground telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic and coaxial cables. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility construction, a strong understanding of underground boring techniques, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install conduit and cable underground Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and job site plans Perform potholing and locate existing utilities to avoid conflicts Set up and maintain bore pits, entry/exit points, and drilling fluid systems Monitor bore path and adjust drilling parameters as needed Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on boring equipment Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and inspectors Document work performed and complete daily production reports Assist with general labor tasks as needed (e.g., trenching, backfilling, cleanup)

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent 2+ years of experience operating boring equipment in OSP or utility construction Familiarity with Ditch Witch, Vermeer, or similar HDD equipment Ability to read and interpret construction plans and utility locates Valid driver's license (CDL preferred) and clean driving record Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Strong teamwork and communication skills Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor

Preferred Skills

Experience with fiber optic cable installation CDL Class A with tanker endorsement Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills First Aid/CPR or OSHA 10 certification
