Responsibilities Occupational therapists evaluate and assess patients to develop therapy plans that aim to restore patients\' abilities to perform routine tasks required in everyday life. In order to facilitate rehabilitation, OTs establish functional, measurable goals that the OT and patient can strive toward together. OTs may work in hospitals, outpatient clinics, therapy centers, or home health settings. The ideal candidate for an OT career will excel at planning and communicating with patients, their families, and the rest of the rehab team. An OT may also be responsible for clinical students and support staff including certified or licensed assistants, technicians, and volunteers. All OTs must adhere to the AOTA Code of Ethics.
