The Water & Wastewater Engineer at Ojo Spa Resorts will be a hands-on, certified operator responsible for regulatory compliance, reporting, and other related tasks for water and wastewater systems at both Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs and Ojo Santa Fe.


This position requires a 45-50 hour per week commitment. There may be times when you are asked to work on your typical days off, holidays, or weekends due to the seasonal needs of the resort. The Water & Wastewater Engineer works closely with the Ojo Spa Resorts Managing Partner, Director of Engineering, and the Facilities team at each resort to improve, operate, and maintain the water and wastewater systems at both resorts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:



Evaluate existing water and wastewater infrastructure at both resorts Review in detail Discharge Permits for both Resorts to gain an understanding of NMED Permit requirements, including reporting, documentation, and testing. Review current water testing protocols and make recommendations to improve our ability to effectively evaluate and monitor progress towards regulatory compliance. Organize, compile, and maintain water quality and flow data from both internal and external testing facilities. Work collaboratively with the Director of Engineering, Managing Partner, and Consultants to interpret water quality and flow data, identify necessary improvements to the wastewater operation, and implement said improvements. Mentor crew interested in plant operations as to daily duties, safety, and effective operation. Collaborate with the Managing Partner and Director of Engineering, regulatory agencies, and consultants to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements. Supervise and oversee upgrades of water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards. Perform ongoing field inspections and assessments of existing water and wastewater infrastructure to identify maintenance and improvement needs. Research and stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in water and wastewater engineering. Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Develop and maintain plant documentation, including reports, drawings, and specifications. Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources, ensuring effective operation. Establish and maintain positive relationships with NMED personnel, especially OSR's designated compliance officers, through proactive and responsive communication. Participate in the upgrade and re-design of the wastewater plants at Ojo Santa Fe and Ojo Caliente, including working with OSR's wastewater engineer/consultant

Requirements:
Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, including physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues. Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage with managers and consultants. Knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements in relation to water and wastewater treatment facilities. Attention to detail and accuracy in design calculations, cost estimates, and technical documentation. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a compliance-challenged environment. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain project documentation and records systematically. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of water and wastewater engineering. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to stand for extended periods, sit, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and push/pull/lift items weighing up to 40 pounds. This role requires the ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, auditory focus, and visual attention.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



New Mexico Water Operator Level II or Small System license required New Mexico Wastewater Operator Level II license required Minimum of five years' experience as a water operator Minimum of five years' experience as a wastewater operator Familiarity with environmental regulations and permit requirements related to water and wastewater treatment facilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in site inspections and meetings as required. Commitment to health and safety practices in the workplace.
