Optometric Technician

Job Description

The optometric technician works very closely with the Optometrists. The position entails doing all pretesting for annual eye exams and medical eye appointments. It also involves performing a variety of enhanced testing to assist the doctors with monitoring and treating ocular disease. The position is fast paced and requires the ability to ascertain and document thorough medical histories. The optometric technician also promotes, sells, and trains on contact lens purchases and care.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):



Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone) Maintain a friendly, polite, professional, empathetic, and helpful attitude at all times during both internal (fellow employees) and external (patients) exchanges. Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave Practice urgency at all times with patient's time, as well as doctor's time and schedule Perform efficient, thorough, and timely work ups for the doctor. Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, OCT, phoropter, Lipiscan, and all other pre-testing machinery Follow scripting for testing equipment (photos, visual fields, visual activity, etc.) Clean all examination equipment including tonometer tip Set phoropter to patient RX or re-set to plano (per doctor's request) Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications Demonstrates a working knowledge of insurance benefit plans and how to apply them to contact lens sales. Inputs contact lens orders in Point of Sale system and manufacturer ordering site. Accurately order, stock and dispense contact lenses and supplies. Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA Recommend to branch manager improvements in sales and service. General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager May be required to switch home office locations to meet company needs.

Qualifications & Skills:



REQUIRED:



High School Diploma/GED. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Ability to work weekends when applicable Desire to gain industry knowledge and training Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals Consistently creating a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times Computer knowledge and ability to enter prescriptions into computerized system and place contact lens orders. Typing 25 wpm. Must be able to work Saturday hours. Must be able to work overtime hours if needed. Must be able to work in any location owned by The Eye Institute to maintain office coverage. Reliable transportation that would allow employee to go to multiple work locations with minimal notice Ability to be cross trained in other office duties to meet patient service needs. A willingness to serve others and a positive attitude toward team members, vendors, and patients is a must. Must be able to work in an environment where multiple conversations are occurring at the same time, machines operating in the background. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, reach overhead, sit for up to 4 hours at a time, stand for up to 6 hours throughout the day, type on the computer and operate phone system simultaneously. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
