We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Optician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and eyewear services within our optometry practice. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a strong understanding of optical dispensing and frame fitting. The Optician will assist patients in selecting and fitting eyewear, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow while maintaining the highest standards of patient satisfaction and comfort.
Duties
Interpret and verify eyeglass prescriptions from optometrists.
Assist patients in selecting frames based on prescription requirements, facial features, lifestyle, and budget.
Take precise measurements including pupillary distance (PD), segment height, and frame dimensions.
Fit and adjust eyeglasses and contact lenses for optimal comfort and visual performance.
Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and treatments (progressive, bifocal, anti-reflective, blue light filtering, etc.).
Process eyewear orders with laboratories and vendors, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
Perform frame repairs, adjustments, and warranty services.
Dispense completed eyewear and conduct final quality checks and adjustments.
Maintain accurate patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
Collaborate with reception and clinical staff to manage appointments and address patient inquiries.
Support optical operations by maintaining inventory, managing product displays, and ensuring a clean work environment.
Handle optical sales transactions and insurance claims processing.
Skills
Active Oregon State Optician License (or ability to obtain).
Strong background in optical dispensing and patient care.
Knowledge of optical mathematics, lens design, and frame materials.
Familiarity with insurance processing and optical billing practices is a plus.
Proficient in using optical equipment including lensometers, pupillometers, and frame adjustment tools.
Proficient in using EMR/EHR systems for accurate record keeping.
Excellent communication and sales skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages.
Ability to work collaboratively within a medical office environment while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
Previous experience in optometry or optical retail settings is preferred but not required.
American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification is preferred.
