Position Summary

We are hiring for an Optician (Part-Time) with Proliance Children and Family Eye Doctors in Redmond, WA. The Optician is responsible for processing and dispensing physician optical prescriptions for glasses and contacts. Providing comprehensive optical services for the selection and maintenance of frames, replacement lenses and contacts.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays (20-29 hours per week)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The key duties and responsibilities of the Optician include, but are not limited to:

Discuss the patient's eyewear needs Help the patient choose appropriate frames to satisfy the patient's comfort, appearance and prescription requirements Discuss and recommend the suitability of types of lenses and or lens enhancements Edging single vision lenses into frames for final product Employ quality control processes, utilizing a lensometer, pupillary distance, segment height, to ensure the final product conforms to the physician prescription and patient facial requirements Teach new contact lens wearers on the technique of safe insertion and removal of contact lenses Process contact lens orders for purchase on behalf of patients Make sure that new eyewear fits correctly and comfortably upon dispensing Use of hand tools to carry out minor repairs to damaged frames, adjust frames not fitting well, prescription changes for lens replacement Review patient insurance benefits and how their coverage relates to frames, lenses, contacts the patient is interested in purchasing Enter claims onto either excel spread sheet for in house processing, or online for web site insurance based processing

Education/Experience

At least one year of optical work experience Optional - optician apprenticeship, certification or LDO

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent oral communication skills in person and on the phone Ability make sales by describing products and services that fulfill patient needs Ability to type and work with computers Skilled hand - eye coordination Patience and attention to detail Strong interpersonal skills
