We are seeking a skilled and dependable Ophthalmic Technician & Scribe to join our dynamic team in a part-time role, with the opportunity to transition to full-time. This multifaceted position combines clinical, technical, and administrative responsibilities to ensure seamless operations and outstanding patient care in our fast-paced retina practice.

Position Responsibilities

Patient Interaction and Scheduling

: Greet and check in patients with a warm, professional demeanor. Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and coordinate follow-up visits to optimize clinic efficiency. Communicate effectively with patients to provide instructions, answer questions, and ensure a positive experience.

Clinical Workups and Testing

: Conduct comprehensive patient workups, including obtaining detailed medical and ocular histories. Perform diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), and pupil dilation with precision and care. Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring comfort and compliance with clinical protocols.

Ophthalmic Imaging

: Capture high-quality ophthalmic images using advanced equipment (e.g., OCT, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography). Process and organize imaging data for physician review, ensuring accuracy and adherence to diagnostic standards.

Procedure Assistance

: Assist physicians during intravitreal injections and other in-office procedures by preparing sterile fields, instruments, and medications. Monitor patient status during procedures and provide support as needed to ensure safety and comfort.

Medical Scribing

: Accurately document patient encounters, examinations, and procedures in real-time using electronic health records (EHR), such as Nextech. Record detailed clinical findings, physician diagnoses, treatment plans, and patient instructions with precision and clarity. Ensure scribed notes are complete, compliant with medical terminology, and aligned with billing and coding requirements.

Inventory and Administrative Support

: Track and manage medication inventory, ensuring proper storage, documentation, and timely reordering. Assist with administrative tasks, including maintaining patient records, processing referrals, and coordinating with insurance providers.

Patient Education and Communication

: Educate patients on treatment plans, medication administration, and post-procedure care under physician guidance. Serve as a liaison between patients and providers to facilitate clear communication and follow-up care.
Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with Nextech EHR is highly preferred. Prior experience in ophthalmology, particularly in retina or vitreoretinal subspecialties, is strongly desired. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification is a plus. Strong knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, diagnostic testing, and imaging modalities (OCT, fundus photography, FA). Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on patient-centered care. Proficiency in a second language such as Korean, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, or Farsi is strongly preferred to enhance patient communication and care in our diverse community. Proven organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and strict adherence to HIPAA regulations. Comfortable with hands-on patient care, procedure preparation, and clinical documentation.
