Overview:
The Ophthalmic Assistant (Uveitis Coordinator) conducts measurements and tests that provide the Physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. This position is responsible for coordinating the Uveitis Service Line by partnering with the Uveitis Physicians during their dedicated Uveitis Clinics. The individual working in this role will partner with the providers to ensure all necessary tests and treatments are done as prescribed working as the link between the patient and the provider to coordinate these unique services.
Non-Exempt On-site Role; Rate is determined based on experience and certification(s)
Range $18.00-$34.00/hr
Responsibilities:
Provides administrative support to the Uveitis service line (1 day/8 hours) weekly.Checks voice mailbox and follows up with uveitis patients.
Assists with medication pre-authorization.
Coordinates and follows up with lab results.
Keeps patient handouts and brochures updated.
Helps with communication between providers regarding patient care updates.
Works in the clinic during each providers dedicated Uveitis Clinic (1 days/12 hours). While working in clinic helps provide education to Uveitis patients, schedules special testing and helps coordinate labs for these patients.
Reviews patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history, including but not limited to OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry.
Performs lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp exam including applanation tonometry and anterior chamber angle assessment, basic muscle balance testing, assesses pupils, confrontation visual fields and gross
external exam.
Performs advanced ophthalmic procedures.
Acts as scribe while the physician examines patients, entering data into electronic medical records or handwritten in paper charts.
Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
Assists ensuring office procedures are adhered to and required informed consent is obtained.
Assists with patient education.
Oversees patient flow throughout the day.
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.
Maintains a positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
Qualifications:
OA1 Experience: 0-2 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience
OAII Experience: 2+ years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience
