Main Responsibilities

Job Summary

• Operate a variety of equipment on jobsite.
• Successful candidate may also work at a road site or asphalt plant or crusher.

Main Responsibilities

• Operate power construction equipment, such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, backhoes, scrapers, motor graders, shovels and derricks.
• May also be responsible for running large pumps or air compressors.
• Heavy equipment operators drive heavy construction equipment and control their attachments, such as buckets, swing booms, scrapers and blades. They also control water and air output of pumps and compressors.
• Heavy equipment operators should know basic maintenance and repair of the equipment they operate.
• Operating engineers may be expected to perform equipment and materials inspections.
• Must be able to understand specifications and instructions, both verbal and written.
• Working with heavy-duty machinery requires knowledge of and strict adherence to safety regulations.
• Wear all proper personal protective equipment.
• Travel within Southeast Alaska communities may be required.
• Must be able to work overtime including Saturdays and Sundays. Typically weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.

• MSHA Certification.
• OSHA 10 hr Certification.
• CPR/First Aid Certification desired.
• Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) with valid medical card.

Physical Requirements

• Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
