The Company

APEL Extrusions, Inc. is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions, with six extrusion presses and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing approximately 300 people. With facilities in Calgary Canada, Coburg Oregon, and Phoenix Arizona, APEL serves the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States.

Job Summary

The Operations Manager plans, monitors, and drives improvement in all plant operations with focus on safety, quality, employee relations, on-time delivery, productivity, efficiency, training, organizational development, and more.

Experience in manufacturing and production management. Experience maintaining a highly capitalized manufacturing operation. Demonstrable and proven experience managing people and priorities. Education/training in safety, quality, and Lean Manufacturing. Job Duties/Responsibilities

Act as principle point of contact for operations, working and communicating with other departments to continuously improve operations through waste reduction and productivity improvement initiatives. Assist in the development and execution of operating and capital budgets. Monitor daily shift performance in production, delivery, and scrap data. Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for operations to ensure that productivity, efficiency, and quality are monitored for performance and that action is taken if corrective action is needed. Ensure that all company quality processes and procedures and executed properly. Monitor employee health and safety (EHS) processes and procedures and take corrective action to ensure the safety of all plant personnel, customers, vendors, contractors and other facility visitors. Establish priorities and initiatives with the maintenance department for equipment availability (maximize up-time). Assist with appropriate production scheduling and availability of resources to meet customer requirements at lowest cost. Work with management to design and implement strategies for operational improvement. Collaborate in developing technical and operating capabilities of personnel and administer a training program to develop those capabilities. Actively stay up to date with latest production and maintenance technologies to assist in the advancement of company capabilities. Work with the executive and sales teams to proactively prepare operations for growth - provide depth, insight, and commitment to communicate and coordinate plans through the efforts of operations. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in management or engineering, or post-secondary education in manufacturing or other relevant degree areas. 8 years of production management/operations experience. + Preferred - 12 years manufacturing experience
Knowledge or experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts. Ability to read, write, and understand English.
