WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview): Assistant Director (AD) of External Relations (ER) is a leadership position within the structure of a disaster operation supporting accurate and consistent communication. The External Relations section engages, informs, and educates partners about the planning, coordination, and delivery of disaster services before, during and after disasters. Through relationship management, ER supports decision-making by delivering the right information, to the right people, at the right time.

This position is located in Kahului, HI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Model leadership, management, communication, and interpersonal skills aligned with the five C\xe2\x80\x99s. Ensure all Red Cross Disaster Relief Operation (DRO) workers are held accountable to exhibit the same behaviors both to the clients and their fellow Red Cross workers.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Government Operations, Community Engagement and Partnerships, coordinate messaging with Disaster Public Affairs and collaborate with Disaster Fundraising and Government Relations at NHQ (National Headquarters). Support all levels of engagement, federal, state, community, and tribal.
  • Manage a team of people assigned to coordinate and execute the strategy and tactics to accomplish the operational goals and objectives set by the Disaster Response Operation (DRO) Director.
  • Foster an open relationship by encouraging the sharing of opinions and feedback. Effectively interact with people at all levels, from operational workers and leadership to suppliers and clients, establishing strong connections and relationships.
  • Anticipate potential issues, engage in thorough planning, and apply strategic thinking to stay ahead in operations. Advocate to ensure equity for all affected communities.
  • Coach managers on the creation and maintenance of a productive work environment, including workforce safety, performance evaluation, recognition, and overall team satisfaction.
  • Ability to lead and foster collaboration between operational functions.
  • When required, manage external relations activities across multiple geographic districts or zones.
Standard Schedule: This is a temporary assignment expected to last 3 months to one year. Work hours are 12 hours per day 6 days per week.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Education: Bachelor\'s degree required.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Management Experience: 3 years of supervisory or management experience. * Travel: A valid Drivers License is required.
  • Physical requirements may include the ability to sit or stand for long periods and adapt to long, irregular hours, and frequent schedule changes are required.
