The Operations Generalist is a multi-faceted, hands-on role responsible for supporting the daily operations of the 5th Street Public Market and adjacent properties. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and is comfortable stepping into different functions as needed: including facilities support, light maintenance, security coverage, and custodial tasks.

This role requires flexibility, reliability, and a team-first mindset. The ideal candidate is adaptable, safety-minded, and willing to perform a wide range of tasks to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for the public and our tenants. This position will operate in accordance with Obie Companies policies, standards and culture.

Key Responsibilities

Operations/Facilities Support

Perform manual tasks in the maintenance, sanitation, and/or repair of 5th Street Public Market and Obie Companies properties.

Perform general facilities support tasks to maintain a safe, clean, and functional marketplace.

Assist with light maintenance (e.g. basic repairs, moving equipment, minor fixes, minor carpentry, painting)

May operate non-CDL vehicles and other light equipment or tools.

May perform special projects including pressure washing, holiday decor and lighting installations.

Provide on-call coverage support as needed.

Custodial Support

Perform deep cleaning and routine cleaning of public and back-of-house areas as needed.

Assist with waste management, litter pick-up, and other sanitation tasks.

Maintain clean, safe, inviting, and well-maintained facilities to meet the standards of Obie Companies.

Security/Coverage Support

Provide fill-in coverage for security functions as needed.

Perform Security patrols; monitoring the Market District, parking lots, and inspecting buildings, equipment and access points.

May investigate people for suspicious activity or possessions and report to supervisor immediately.

May respond to Security calls from tenants.

Monitor surveillance activity

General Support

Welcome customers of the 5th Street Public Market and provide an attention to detail that will ensure a wonderful customer service.

Abiding by daily checklists and tasks as assigned by supervisors and the Facilities Manager.

Completing and turning in required paperwork during each shift.

Regular attendance is of primary importance for every position at the Market. You are expected to arrive for work on time and be ready to start work at the beginning of your scheduled shift. You are also expected to complete your shift as scheduled.

Required Qualifications

Flexible availability, including willingness to be on-call or adjust schedule as needed

Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, standing, walking for extended periods)

Comfort working independently and as part of a team

Strong reliability and follow-through

Willingness to perform a variety of duties, including cleaning and maintenance task
