The Operations Assistant Manager supports daily manufacturing operations to ensure efficient production, quality standards, and timely delivery of products. This role works closely with the Operations Manager to coordinate workflow, supervise staff, improve processes, and maintain a safe and organized production environment. In a small manufacturing setting, this position requires a hands-on leader who can balance administrative duties with floor-level support.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations Support
Assist in planning, scheduling, and monitoring daily production activities
Coordinate workflow to meet production goals, deadlines, and customer requirements
Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste
Assist with inventory control, material flow, and production reporting
Team Leadership & Supervision
Help supervise production staff, including training, coaching, and performance support
Assist with shift coverage, labor planning, and employee scheduling
Promote teamwork, accountability, and positive employee relations
Step in as acting manager when the Operations Manager is unavailable
Quality & Safety
Ensure adherence to quality standards, procedures, and work instructions
Support inspections and corrective action processes
Enforce safety policies and promote a safe, clean, and organized workplace
Assist with incident reporting and safety training
Administrative & Reporting Duties
Support cost control efforts and operational budgeting initiatives
Communicate production status and issues to management and other departments
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
2-5 years of experience in manufacturing or operations, with supervisory responsibility
Experience in a small or mid-size manufacturing environment preferred
Skills & Competencies
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to lead by example in a hands-on production environment
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and safety standards
Proficiency with basic computer applications (ERP systems, spreadsheets, reports)
Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced setting
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to spend significant time on the production floor
Ability to lift up to 50-60 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed
Willingness to work flexible hours or shifts based on production needs
