We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Operating Room Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in perioperative care, demonstrate proficiency with various EMR and EHR systems, and have a strong background in aseptic technique and patient assessment. This role involves providing critical nursing support during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols. The Operating Room Nurse will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and sterile fields are ready for surgery
Assist during surgical procedures by passing instruments, suturing, and managing sterile techniques
Monitor patient vital signs and assess patient condition throughout the perioperative process
Administer medications, including injections and IV infusions, as prescribed by physicians
Maintain accurate medical documentation using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
Manage airway and ventilator support when necessary, ensuring optimal patient ventilation and oxygenation
Conduct preoperative assessments and provide patient education regarding procedures and post-operative care
Follow infection control standards including sterile processing and aseptic techniques to prevent infections
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, post-operative care, and long-term recovery strategies
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
Experience
Proven experience as an Operating Room Nurse in hospital or outpatient surgical settings
Extensive knowledge of surgical procedures across specialties such as orthopedics, cardiology (including catheterization), ophthalmology, ENT, or general surgery
Familiarity with advanced medical equipment including ventilators, catheters, ostomy supplies, and surgical lasers (esthetic laser treatment)
Experience working within Level I or Level II trauma centers is preferred
Competence in handling complex cases involving trauma medicine, acute pain management, infectious disease care, or critical care transport
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or similar platforms for accurate medical documentation
Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations like sonography or medical imaging when required for specific cases
Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology relevant to surgical interventions and patient assessment
Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory care), or patients with disabilities (working with people with developmental disabilities) is advantageous
