Overview
Lead perioperative operations at a 240-bed acute care facility in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the only hospital in the Seacoast region recognized as an ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. This OR Manager role oversees 45 FTEs including RNs, surgical technologists, first assistants, and OR techs across 11 operating rooms. The position reports to the Surgical Services Director and works collaboratively with Clinical Coordinators to guide department growth, patient satisfaction, physician relations, and fiscal responsibility. Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of 11-room operating room department including scheduling, patient rounding, and ensuring optimal patient satisfaction.
Maintain clinical knowledge of perioperative nursing and serve as resource for staff regarding surgical procedures and OR best practices.
Work collaboratively with Clinical Coordinators to guide department growth, patient satisfaction, physician relations, and fiscal responsibility.
Supervise and direct delivery of patient care and care-related services in accordance with administrative policies, hospital vision, mission, and strategies.
Manage day-to-day operations of surgical services ensuring efficient throughput and quality patient outcomes.
Interview, hire, and onboard qualified personnel including registered nurses, surgical technologists, first assistants, and OR technicians.
Assess and evaluate employee work performance, implement learning plans, and complete annual staff evaluations.
Counsel staff and implement disciplinary processes when indicated, including performance improvement plans and termination decisions.
Assist educator with competency development, skills validation, and continuing education for perioperative staff.
Assist Clinical Coordinators with admission and discharge coordination to ensure seamless patient flow.
Provide leadership in compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, national nursing standards, and specialty surgical standards.
Evaluate patient outcomes and implement evidence-based practices to improve surgical quality metrics and clinical results.
Assist Surgical Services Director with unit budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams to create a system of safe, quality surgical healthcare delivery.
Support trauma and stroke program operations as part of comprehensive care delivery.
Qualifications
Required:
Current New Hampshire RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
Minimum 1-3 years of RN Operating Room experience
Strong clinical expertise in perioperative nursing and surgical procedures
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work Monday-Friday days with no weekend requirements
Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program
Previous OR charge nurse or leadership experience
Experience with Level II Trauma Center surgical operations
CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification
Strong budget management and financial acumen
Note:
Will consider strong RN Operating Room Charge Nurses ready to transition into management.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Pay: $47.30-$65.20 based on years of experience
