We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room First Assistant - RN to join our surgical team. This vital role involves providing advanced support during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining sterile techniques in a fast-paced hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive OR experience, proficiency with EMR/EHR systems, and a strong understanding of perioperative care. Candidates with specialized skills such as suturing, sterile processing, and familiarity with complex medical procedures are highly valued. Responsibilities
Assist surgeons during operative procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, and tissue handling using aseptic techniques.
Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and instruments are sterile and ready for surgery.
Monitor and maintain patient safety throughout procedures, including airway management, IV infusion, and vital signs assessment.
Perform suturing, catheterization, specimen collection/processing, and other intraoperative tasks as directed by the surgical team.
Document all perioperative activities accurately in medical records using EMR/EHR systems.
Support preoperative assessments and postoperative care planning in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed to prevent contamination or infection spread within the OR environment.
Assist with patient positioning and transfer using appropriate equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
Maintain sterile technique standards during all procedures to meet hospital and accreditation requirements.
Qualifications
Valid RN licensure with current state registration.
Current Basic Life Support Certification required
Previous OR or surgical nursing experience required
At least 1 year of perioperative experience.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology related to perioperative care, and advanced patient assessment skills
Strong understanding of infection control practices and sterile processing procedures
Excellent communication skills for collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
