We are seeking a highly skilled Operating Room Circulating Nurse to join our surgical team in providing exceptional patient care during various surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will possess extensive OR experience, demonstrate proficiency in aseptic technique, and have a comprehensive understanding of perioperative protocols. This role involves coordinating surgical activities, ensuring patient safety, and supporting the surgical team with critical nursing functions across diverse specialties including ophthalmology, orthopaedics, plastics and more. Candidates with experience in hospital settings, Level I or II trauma centers, or teaching hospitals are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
Act as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures, managing the sterile field and supporting the surgical team.
Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and documentation are ready prior to procedures.
Assist with patient assessment and positioning before surgery, including vital signs monitoring and physiological assessments.
Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout procedures to prevent infection and ensure compliance with infection control standards.
Coordinate with anesthesia providers for airway management, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
Document all perioperative activities accurately.
Facilitate communication between surgical team members, patients, and ancillary departments to ensure smooth workflow.
Assist with specimen collection/processing and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
Monitor patient status during surgery, respond promptly to emergent needs such as airway management or acute pain control.
Support postoperative care planning including discharge instructions
Requirements
Valid nursing license with current registration; previous OR or perioperative nursing experience is essential.
Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique, sterile processing, and infection control protocols.
Experience working within hospital environments such as trauma centers, teaching hospitals, or outpatient surgery centers preferred.
Strong understanding of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology related to anesthesia and surgical care.
Ability to perform patient assessments including vital signs monitoring and physical examinations.
Skilled in medication administration including IV infusions, injections, and catheter care.
Capable of handling high-pressure situations involving airway management
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications like ACLS preferred.
