This is an as needed substitute Licensed School Nurse position to serve at our schools district wide.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
Current Minnesota license to practice as a licensed Registered Nurse, and a license as a
Minnesota Public Health Nurse.
Licensed as a Licensed School Nurse (LSN) through the MN Department of Education.
CPR and AED certified.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate screenings for vision, hearing, color vision, and scoliosis, the follow-up assessment for students that fail the screening, and referral of students who fail that assessment.
Case management. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate through the nursing process the health and developmental status of Pre-K through fifth grade children.
Promote and maintain optimal health and well-being of students, families, and school personnel through health counseling.
Communicate current health problems, needs, and concerns of students to their parents and appropriate school staff.
Administer medications and treatments to students per physican's order and parent authorization according to district policies and protocols.
Develop and maintain a system of first aid and emergency care for students and staff.
Develop emergency plans for students with special needs.
Develop and implement the health component of the Individual Education Plans (IEP) for
students with disabilities or handicapping conditions that affect the students' education.
Participate on the Child Study Team, 504 Team, Problem Solving Team. Collaborates with administration, students, support staff, teachers, parents, and guardians.
Maintain daily, monthly, and yearly statistical information regarding health status of students and staff, and utilization of school health service programs.
Survey, report, and assist in the prevention and control of students with communicable disease.
Annually review the immunization status of students, maintain records of student immunizations, and report annually to the MN Department of Education and MN Department of Health.
Implement district policies relating to health, such as administration of medications, reporting child abuse, public use of school records, and immunizations.
Inventory and order first aid supplies and equipment.
Assist students, parents and guardians to locate and utilize community resources.
