We are seeking a skilled and passionate Omakase Sushi Chef to join our fine dining restaurant here in Downtown Westport. The ideal candidate will bring culinary expertise and profesionalism, creativity, and precision to craft authentic and innovative sushi dishes. This role offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary artistry in a sophisticated setting, delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests.
We are looking for a part-time weekend role. Open to discussing other availability.
Duties
Prepare and serve high-quality Omakase sushi, ensuring presentation and flavor excellence
Assist the Head Chef in planning and developing diverse sushi menus that highlight seasonal ingredients and culinary trends
Maintain impeccable food safety and hygiene standards in all food handling and preparation processes
Handle all aspects of food preparation, including slicing, assembling, and plating sushi with precision and care. Must have professional knife skills
Assist the Head Chef in managing ingredient inventory, ordering supplies, and ensuring the freshness of seafood and all other ingredients
Collaborate with kitchen staff to coordinate meal preparation and ensure timely service
Uphold the restaurant's standards for fine dining service, including attentive presentation and guest interaction at the Sushi Bar
Assist in training junior kitchen staff on sushi techniques, safety protocols, and quality standards
Requirements
Proven experience in a culinary environment specializing in sushi or Japanese cuisine, preferably in fine dining settings
Strong knife skills with the ability to handle seafood and ingredients with precision
Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper food handling procedures
Experience in menu planning, food preparation, cooking, and meal presentation
Background in dietary department or dietary aide experience is a plus for accommodating guests' dietary needs
Excellent food industry knowledge including: catering, food service, and restaurant experience
Ability to work efficiently under high pressure and fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail
Passion for culinary arts with a focus on authentic Japanese cuisine and innovative sushi techniques
Prior experience with food industry standards related to culinary experience, food safety, and serving is highly desirable
Ability to maintain proper communication with staff and supervisors at all times
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 - 35 per week
