Job Description

Reviews Area Management's incoming internal mail. Independently routes the mail to appropriate staff member or unit for action. Follows up to ensure that action has been taken. Picks up and distributes inter-office mail from Management's out baskets. Opens, date stamps, and distributes all office incoming mail. Prioritizes the remaining mail, bringing items of interest or importance to the Executive Officer Lieutenant's attention. Maintains suspense file for items requiring future action. Independently composes correspondence for Management's signature. Provides backup telephone coverage for the Area. Types and processes memorandums, letters, and all confidential correspondence for Area, such as: Adverse Actions/Miscellaneous Investigations, and Citizen Complaints. Maintains confidential personnel files for Sergeants, Lieutenants, and OSS I (T).

Assembles personnel packages and mails personnel folders for transferring Sergeants, Lieutenants, and OSS I (T). Processes all paperwork regarding personnel resignations and retirements. Compiles and processes CHP 71's, Attendance Reports and CHP 444's, Summary Sheet of Absence Requests, for Management and Professional Staff. Processes and maintains health benefits for all Area employees. Processes all Travel Expense Claims. Logs and distributes payroll.

Type, process, and review all forms and documents related to Area Injury/Illness records such as CHP 121, Employer's Report of Occupational Injury or Illness; CHP 113, Injury and Crash Report, and OSHA 300. Works closely with the Occupational Safety Sergeant to ensure compliance with all related policies.

Reviews, assists in the completing, and processes Family Medical Leave Act paperwork. Processes Veterans Affairs benefits for Area's new officers. Processes Informal Discovery Requests.

Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.

Working Conditions


Working hours Monday through Friday from 08:00am to 5:00pm. The Office Technician will be required to perform their duties primarily from the seated position in an environment that is climate controlled and exposed to predominately artificial lighting in a single-floor building.
