The City of Richmond Main Library is seeking one Part-Time Office Assistant Courier that will support the delivery of library books, materials, and services. Daily the library receives new books from vendors. These boxes need to be unpacked, parking slips confirmed, and prepared for delivery to any of the 9 library locations in the Richmond Public Library system. This position needs basic literacy and physical stamina to move materials and assist with boxing and unboxing books as well as moving chairs, tables, and other fixtures and furnishings to facilitate programs and meetings that occur in library locations. This is a critical position because it supports higher level processing and delivery of library resources. Position is part-time (30 hours).
Duties include but are not limited to This class provides clerical and office support activities, administrative coordination and delivery services. Incumbents provide basic clerical and administrative support tasks following prescribed procedures and instructions. As assigned, work may include:
Receptionist duties, including furnishing general information
Data entry
Filing and maintaining filing systems
Answering phones and taking messages
Copying, ordering and maintaining supplies and forms
Preparing bulk mailing, distributing mail and providing general information to staff, youth and/or the public
Serving as a courier/driver to deliver books, materials, bank deposits, and mail.
Loading and unloading mail, other materials, and equipment from a vehicle
Sorting, processing, and distributing mail,
Preparing mail for postage
Assisting with the packaging of items; and
Operating machines to insert and fold notices into mailers.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge in US postal regulations. Skilled in customer service and oral and written communication. Proven ability to work independently with little direct supervision and maintain a professional attitude. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
One year of general office receptionist duties
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approve by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Motor Vehicle Operator\'s License with a satisfactory driving record
