The Orthotics & Prosthetics (O&P) Technician will provide technical support to the Prosthetist and Orthotist in the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of prosthetic and orthotic devices. This role focuses on hands-on work in the lab, ensuring that devices meet prescribed specifications, patient needs, and quality standards. The Technician will assist in creating functional, safe, and durable devices that contribute to improved patient mobility and quality of life.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or technical training in orthotics and prosthetics fabrication preferred.
Experience in fabrication, mechanical assembly, or related healthcare technology strongly desired.
Knowledge of materials (plastics, metals, composites, and leather) and fabrication tools/equipment.
Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed work orders and technical specifications.
Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and craftsmanship.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fabricate, assemble, and repair prosthetic and orthotic devices under the direction of the Prosthetist/Orthotist.
Utilize casts, molds, and measurements provided by the clinician to create custom devices.
Select and prepare appropriate materials and components based on work orders and prescriptions.
Perform finishing work such as trimming, polishing, padding, and aligning devices to ensure comfort and functionality.
Maintain, adjust, and service devices to extend their use and optimize patient satisfaction.
Ensure quality control by inspecting all devices for accuracy, durability, and compliance with specifications.
Keep fabrication lab clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Maintain an inventory of materials, tools, and equipment, notifying management of needed supplies.
Support the clinical team by making timely modifications and assisting during fittings as requested.
Stay current with fabrication techniques, tools, and industry standards through ongoing training.
