Overview

The University of Minnesota Medical Center represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. About this position:

  • Weekends: 3 out of 6 weekends
  • Day/Evenings 32 hour every two weeks and is 8 hour shifts
  • We are looking for a Nursing Station Technician (NST) to join the Adult ICU team at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center!
  • In this 18 bed unit we care for patients who have experienced conditions such as neuro, cardiac and medical patients requiring heart monitoring and respiratory support. Are you ready to join our team?
Responsibilities

The Nursing Station Technician (NST) is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, collaboration and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. The NST is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. In addition, the NST will maintain unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to acquire this certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
  • Candidates should possess excellent communication skills such as clear speech, ability to read, legible handwriting, and strong digital literacy. Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures is required.
  • A self-starter, who is passionate about crafting an outstanding patient experience, will receive top consideration.
We also consider:
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
We also consider:
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position. NOTE: Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the MN Nursing Assistant Registry.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience
