Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and energetic Nursery Coordinator to lead, work in, and manage our Sunday nursery. The Nursery Coordinator provides loving, attentive care to infants and toddlers during worship services, Sunday School, and special events. Rooted in the Wesleyan tradition of hospitality and care, this role helps ensure that all families feel welcomed and supported as they participate in the life of the church.In this vital role, you will oversee nursery operations, ensure a safe and nurturing environment for children, and other staff members in delivering high-quality care and attention to our youngest. Your leadership will foster a positive atmosphere where children can thrive, learn, and develop essential skills. Key Responsibilities

Child Care & Safety

Provide nurturing, developmentally appropriate care for infants and toddlers (typically ages 0-5). Ensure a safe, clean, and organized nursery environment in accordance with the church's Child Protection Policy and Safe Sanctuaries guidelines. Supervise and manage nursery volunteers Follow established check-in/check-out procedures to ensure child safety. Respond calmly and effectively to crying, conflicts, or emergencies

Engagement & Development

Engage children in age-appropriate play, songs, stories, and simple activities that reinforce Christian values. Foster a welcoming environment consistent with United Methodist values of inclusion, compassion, and respect.

Communication

Greet families warmly and maintain positive, professional interactions with parents/guardians. Immediately report any needs, concerns, or incidents to the Pastor or Staff Parish Relations Committee. Report low supplies or equipment issues as needed to the Pastor. Always maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Teamwork & Reliability

Supervise and manage other nursery workers and volunteers. Recruit and schedule volunteer nursery workers. Arrive on time and remain dependable for scheduled services or events. (Typical Sunday worship is at 10 AM, so arrive by 9:30 and plan to leave after worship around 11:30.) Participate in required training sessions, including Safe Sanctuaries training and background checks.

Skills

A genuine love for children and a commitment to serving within a Christian environment. Familiarity with or willingness to learn United Methodist Safe Sanctuaries policies. Support the church's mission to be the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus.Experience working with children across various age groups including infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and children with special needs. Ability to preform care giving activities such as diapering, feeding, nap times, and play-based learning. Excellent communication skills for engaging with parents and church staff. Previous childcare experience preferred. Ability to remain patient, positive, and attentive in a busy setting. Must pass a background check and complete all required training by the United Methodist church. CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Ability to sit on the floor, bend, and stand for extended periods.

Work Schedule

Primarily Sunday mornings, with occasional midweek services, meetings, or special events as assigned. Days off will be granted with prior notice or in an emergency. Ability to sit on the floor, bend, and stand for extended periods.
