Responsibilities



Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations and vital signs, to evaluate wound severity and overall health status. Develop and implement individualized wound care plans utilizing evidence-based practices and advanced techniques such as dermal fillers, esthetic laser treatments, and skin closure methods. Manage complex wounds by applying sterile techniques, performing suturing, debridement, and dressing changes with precision. Administer treatments including IV infusions, injections (e.g., Botulinum toxin), catheterizations, and other procedures aligned with clinical protocols. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks to document patient encounters accurately and efficiently. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including specialists in infectious disease care, geriatrics, hospice & palliative medicine, behavioral health, and physical therapy to ensure comprehensive patient management. Provide triage services for urgent wound concerns via telehealth or in-person visits; prioritize cases based on acuity levels typical of Level I Trauma Centers or critical care settings. Educate patients and their families on wound prevention, nutrition, medication adherence, and post-discharge care plans including discharge planning and case management. Participate in clinical research initiatives to advance wound care practices and contribute to quality improvement projects aligned with NCQA standards. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical documentation for legal and billing purposes using CPT coding standards.

Requirements



Valid Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license with current certification to practice independently in KS and MO. Proven experience in wound care management within hospital medicine, emergency medicine, ICU settings, or outpatient clinics. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Athenahealth; experience with medical documentation including ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and diagnostic evaluation techniques relevant to complex wound management. Hands-on skills in suturing, sterile processing techniques, phlebotomy, venipuncture, catheter care, and specimen collection/processing. Experience administering injections--including Botulinum toxin treatments--and performing procedures like spinal taps or gastrostomy tube feeding is advantageous. Familiarity with acute pain management strategies and the use of ventilators or respiratory support devices when necessary. Background working with diverse populations such as seniors in assisted living or nursing homes; experience with pediatric patients including toddler care is preferred. Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law as it relates to occupational injuries; experience in hospice & palliative medicine or memory/dementia care is a plus. Excellent patient assessment skills combined with strong communication abilities; ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams across inpatient and outpatient settings.
